Job and Internship Fairs

Job and internship fairs serve a mutual purpose. First and foremost, they allow students to network with hundreds of potential employers all in one place. Second, job and internship fairs really benefit companies looking for graduating students with certain skills and qualifications, without scheduling thousands of interviews first.

The fairs are usually held at large facilities on a college campus. Universities generally schedule two fairs per year, sometimes two per semester. Students attending job and internship fairs are required to wear business attire as the environment is clearly focusing on real world work experiences that may lead to full time jobs.

Students must bring their resume to circulate during brief face-to-face meetings with recruiting employers. These interviews are a good preparation for following job interviews after graduation. Professional networking skills are developed and student advisors are present to assist the student with any questions they may have.

In order to find out about ongoing job or internship fairs, it is best to register with “Student Services”, “Career Services” or any other related department in your school. Usually these departments will ask you for an online registration and any job and internship information will then be automatically be mailed to you.

In case you missed a fair at your school, you may also look into any other surrounding colleges. Check their websites for “Student Services” or “Event Calendars”, as most, if not all, job and internship fairs are listed online.

Federal Career Intern Program:
This program is designed to help agencies recruit and attract exceptional individuals into a variety of occupations. It was created under Executive Order 13162 and is intended for positions at grade levels GS-5, 7 and 9. Generally, individuals are appointed to a 2-year internship. Public Health Reports (PHR) Internship:
This is the official journal of the United States Public Health Service. The selected student intern will assist the Editor of PHR on most aspects of producing the Journal. The intern will be expected to read new manuscripts and participate in the weekly meeting of the Editorial Committee to review the papers. The intern will assist the manuscript manager in finding appropriate peer reviewers for the papers that are accepted by the Editorial Committee. Summer Faculty Programs:
This program allows academic faculty to conduct a focused research project in a Federal laboratory during the summer months. The Summer Washington Leadership Seminar is a program designed specifically for Native students. The WINS interns receive 6-credit hours for completing the program.
